The 1928 Travel Air Biplane History

The 1928 Classic Travel Air Biplane flown by California Dreamin’ is brand “NEW”.

The airplane was totally rebuilt in 1999 and assembled with a brand new engine by Morgan Hetrick, a Lear Jet engineer and A & P mechanic. The job was so complete the Federal Aviation Administration zero timed the entire Airframe and engine as “NEW” . The biplane is as it was when it rolled off the assembly line of the Travel Air Manufacturing Company in Wichita, Kansas.

The Travel Air 4000 biplane was designed by Lloyd Stearman, whose company later went on to become a division of The Boeing Company and train many WWII pilots. The company was financed and managed by the early aircraft manufacturing pioneers Walter Beech (now Raytheon/Beech) and Clyde Cessna of (Cessna Aircraft Corp. who has built more single engine - business jets than all other aircraft manufactures combined). The design and bloodline of this biplane is truly the story of American aviation history.
